Such behavior on the network has become possible from the fact that there it is easy to hide one's identity and, by violating the natural law, evade responsibility. Because if a person shows genitals to a passerby on the street, it will have severe consequences and punishment. Sending genitals is a direct violation of personal boundaries and can even cause psychological trauma.
If you're sent photos like this, you're just adding to the statistics and the vast ranks of people who have already received such photos. You're not alone, and you didn't do anything wrong. It's not about you.
In all of this, you may encounter various experiences and feelings: fear, guilt, shame, and disgust.
What to do if You Receive Inappropriate Photos on Social Media?
- First, don't blame yourself for being sent something like this. You are not alone, and it is not your fault.
- Secondly, social networks provide many opportunities to block such a "sender" and forget about the incident. And in any social network, there is an opportunity to complain about the user to the technical support service so that he does not arrange such a mailing to you or anyone else again.
- Thirdly, you can take a screenshot and share it on the same social network with reference to the user. Just do not forget that it is forbidden to publish pornographic materials on social networks (this, unfortunately, does not apply to personal messages). Therefore it is better to edit the screenshot, i.e., to cover the genitals with a smiley face, for example. This is one of the popular methods of combating such mailings because all these amateurs who send intimate photos are very afraid of publicity.
In general, this phenomenon - sending photos of your genitals - started back in 2010. Some experts equate it to exhibitionism and sexual harassment and call it a primitive way to get acquainted.
How to Behave Correctly?
So by no means take this misunderstanding personally. Breathe in, breathe out. Complain about the profile to technical support, and block this user. But don't start a correspondence with the message's author or try to prove anything to him. All of this may be wishful thinking on your part and won't lead to anything adequate.
If you have become anxious and feel that this whole situation has affected you more deeply, be sure to discuss your feelings with a loved one or seek out a professional.
Taking care of yourself is crucial. Newsletters like these can evoke a different range of emotions and feelings in people. And, of course, you have every right to all your feelings.
