At the beginning of this year, we published an article about men’s underwear. The article turned out to be quite detailed. The author, Oxana Ross, discussed the importance of choosing the right underwear for men’s health, described the existing types, and gave advice on how to choose appropriately.
The Idea Behind the Survey
Frankly, I was amazed to learn that there are 24 types of men’s underwear. Of course, only about 10 types are the most widespread, but still. Then I asked myself: how many types do I know? I could only count three.
So, I decided to ask my friends how many they could name. Was it just me who was so uninformed?
The results surprised me even more. The majority also couldn’t manage to name more than three types. But the most interesting finding was the reason: many men don’t choose their own underwear. Instead, their women (mothers, girlfriends, wives) buy it for them.
However, the sample size was too small, and to confirm this hypothesis, we decided to conduct a full-scale survey.
Survey on Men’s and Women’s Preferences in Choosing Men’s Underwear
The purpose of the survey was to understand men’s and women’s preferences in choosing men’s underwear. The survey was conducted as an anonymous questionnaire.
The questionnaire covered questions such as:
- Gender and marital status
- Whether respondents live with their partner or separately
- How many types of underwear they know
- Whether they buy underwear themselves or their partner does it for them
- What factors they consider important when buying underwear
Survey Results
The survey lasted for six months, during which 752 people completed the questionnaire.
After analyzing the collected data, the following became clear:
- About half of men who are not in relationships (51.6%) know no more than three types of underwear.
- Women who are not in relationships are at approximately the same level of awareness: 53.1% know only 1–3 types.
- Men living with their partners are more knowledgeable: 40.8% know 4–6 types.
- The majority of men who are not in relationships buy underwear themselves (72.8%).
- Women play a crucial role in the purchasing process: 30.5% consistently buy underwear for men, while 42.5% do so occasionally.
- The most important factors when buying men’s underwear, as indicated by all respondents, were material (74.5%) and style/design (65.2%). Price was also important for 39.7%.

Why Do We Conduct Surveys?
Any research helps move science forward and contributes to new discoveries.
However, even the most valuable research loses its significance if no one knows about it. That’s why we strive to present our studies at various thematic conferences and summits.
This allows us to share the results with a wider audience, receive feedback from experts, and establish new professional connections. Additionally, such presentations enhance Sequoia’s scientific reputation and help us find partners for future collaborative projects.
We’ve already applied and been selected to present our work twice: at the World Meeting for Sexual Medicine in Dubai in 2023 and in Rio de Janeiro in 2024.
Application for the European Sexual Health Summit in Vienna
Once again, our application has been successful, and we will take part in the 26th European Sexual Health Summit, which will take place on February 20–22 in Vienna. On one of the summit days, Olga Neudakh will present our report to the European scientific community.
Instead of Conclusion
It’s a great honor for us to realize that the work of the entire Sequoia team is being recognized at the highest level. This means we are moving in the right direction.
The path is challenging, but we will persevere and make Sequoia a world leader in the field of men’s health!
